Find a Thousand Ideas to Write

Since writing is a hard skill, we need to do many things to make us get used to it. I know that many people (especially my students) feel writing is really boring skill, and they have a thousand excuses not to practice their writing. The most common excuses is "I do not have any idea to write", this excuse is note entirely true. In fact, we can find many topics to write. You can write about your feeling, the weather, what you've been doing entire afternoon, or some simple thing like how you love your mom cooking.

Still get stuck to get ideas to write? Let us do this trick, I call this game as Zero to Hero, sounds interesting, huh?

Let's get started.

• Prepare a piece of paper and a pen or pencil.
• You can go outside or you can stay where you are.
• Look at around you and write down all the noun you find.
• Put the noun from the smallest one until the biggest one.
• If you done it, choose one thing you like the best.
• Then, close your eyes and think about the noun you choose.
• Use your imagination and gather as many as possible related vocabulary about thing you choose.
• Start to write your imagination down.

As an example I have collected some nouns in my room. 

• Dust- Cable- Stone- Fish- Laptop- Aquarium- Table- Wardrobe
• I choose Fish and I start to think about every vocabulary related to the fish.
• Water, gill, scales, cute, pet, fin, beautiful, swim, feed, fish food, Oxygen, plant, big eyes, cheap, expensive, Aquarium, etc.

• Now it is time to create a simple composition. 

My Fish, Dolly 

I have an oriental fish, its name is Dolly. I bought it two weeks ago at the pet store, it is a cheap fish. I put Dolly inside a big aquarium with white stones and some water plats. Dolly is a really beautiful fish, it has long wavy red and yellow fins, so when it swims, Dolly's like dancing. It has two big eyes with some little black spots around them. Dolly's scales are white and orange with some black spots too. I feed it twice a day, in the morning and in the afternoon. I often talk to Dolly, he is a good listener. You know, sometime I feel sad about Dolly because it does not have any friend. Hence I plan to buy a new oriental fish tomorrow.
